Uncomfortable as it might be, I owe my life to a helmet. Years ago while riding a scooter, I hit a pack of dogs running across the road and I was thrown from it. I survived just because I was wearing a helmet and spent 3 days and nights at GMC! I have known of a friend of my father, whose scooter was hit from behind by a Petrol tanker and he was thrown from his two-wheeler. He survived with a cracked helmet, having landed on his head first. I feel that the benefits of wearing a helmet, far outweigh all other inconveniences. If Goans don't wear helmets, I think that GMC will before long, produce a lot of Neurosurgeons! Nagesh Bhatcar

HELMET RULE ANGERS M.A.G.: Hints dropped by the police officials on introducing safety helmets has drawn instant reaction from the Motorcycle Action Group, which has urged the government to scrap the fresh move or brace itself for a statewide agitation. MAG convenor, Premanand A Lotlikar, said the two-wheeler riders would stand united to oppose any fresh moves to make the use of helmets mandatory. (H)
HELMET BLUES AGAIN: "We are painfully conscious of the fact that nothing will come of the latest proposal to enforce the wearing of helmets, because the two-wheeler riders' lobby and the politicians will together sabotage it. All that will happen is that a scare will be created for a few days to enable the helmet dealers to dispose of their stocks and it will be back to square one once again." (Edit in GT)
