DEMAND FOR RIBANDAR PANCHAYAT : AGITATION LAUNCHED

The Ribandar Citizens Committee yesterday (January 12) launched an agitation for a Ribandar Panchayat with a public meeting held at Ribandar Patto Prof. Ramchandra N. Sanvordekar presided over the meeting which was addressed amongst others by local M.L.A Victoria Feranandes, Adv. Aires Rodrigues, Premanand Lotlikar, Shashi Panjekar, Santa Cruz Sarpanch William Gonsalves, Prabhakar Porobo, Chimbel Sarpanch Sitakant Khandolkar, Agnelo Olivera, Prasad Naik, Usha Kelkar, Parshuram Harmalkar and Adv. Gopal Tamba.

In a resolution passed the meeting called upon the Government of Goa to take immediate steps to set up a Ribandar Panchayat in keeping with the long-standing demand of the residents of the area.

Speakers expressed great concern that Ribandar has been neglected and has not seen any infrastructure development and that the residents were only being burdened with high taxes but no civic amenities. The meeting expressed the hope that in a democracy the will of the people will prevail and that the people of Ribandar would be allowed to Govern their locality through their own Panchayat and end years of exploitation and neglect at the hands of the Panjim Municipal Council.

Convenor of Ribandar Citizen's Committee Mr. Subhash Mahambre vowed that the Committee would not rest till the Government meets the demand of the people of Ribandar for a Panchayat.
