Public views sought on Corporation Act
---------------------------------------------------------
The State government has invited public suggestions and views on the
City of Panjim Corporation Act 2002 with regards to giving effect to the
provisions of the act to the areas mentioned in schedule I for exclusion.
The areas mentioned in schedule I, it may be recalled, are those such as
Taleigao which the act specifically states are not to form part of the City
of Panjim Corporation but to be a panchayat area under the Panchayat Raj Act.
The City of Panjim Corporation Bill was assented to by the Governor
on 21st January this year deeming to be an Act. It may be pointed out
that schedule I of the act comprises the whole of Panjim Municipal area
as on date excluding survey numbers 1-7 of Durgawadi village, survey number
1-295 of Taleigao village but includes survey numbers 122-127 and areas
on the southern side of the road Durgawadi to Panjim-Taleigao.
As per the map enclosed with the Act the entire area of village panchayat
Penha de Franca, part of village Pilerne, part of village Salvador do Mundo,
part of village Socorro, part of village Reis Magos and Sangolda have been
included in the corporation.
Likewise the entire area of village panchayat of St Cruz, entire area of
Bambolim
village but excluding the area under military occupation, part of village
Morombi-O-Piqueno are also included in the corporation area.
People from all these areas are also invited to put forth their suggestions
and views with regards to Schedule I.The same has to reach the
Director of Municipal Administration and ex-officio joint secretary to the
Government of Goa, Collectorate building, Panjim, within 15 days
from 13th February 2003.
