DURING THE Carnival parade, I ran into Karl de Souza. We've met in the past at the home of common friends, and also at places like seminars and conferences. (Goa has such a small set of people interested in such issues, it seems, that one runs into the same set all the time...) Karl, who grew up in Mumbai, returned back early with his wife after working in senior posts in the financial world in Singapore and elsewhere. They live currently in Moira. In our brief meeting, he handed out his card giving me the new contacts of Rishta. This organisation runs the AIDS helpline... "help is just a call away, free and confidential information, support and counselling"... and Karl is the project coordinator. To fight AIDS with information you need to ring the helpline on 1097 in Goa. It works like Childline (which helps children in distress, no matter how poor) which one can contact through 1098.
