Mother Teresa's order pledges to continue work in Iraq By Krittivas Mukherjee, Indo-Asian News Service Kolkata, Mar 20 (IANS) Nuns of Mother Teresa's order have pledged to continue their work in Iraq, where four of them are now caring for physically challenged children. "We are grateful for the concern shown for the nuns now working in Iraq and we pray may war be avoided," Sister Paula Mary of the Missionaries of Charity (MoC) told IANS here. She said four of their nuns, three from Kerala and one from Bangladesh, were now working among "crippled children" in Baghdad at one of the MoC homes. Sister Paula quoted a statement by Sister Nirmala, the MoC superior general, as saying: "The nuns have freely chosen to remain with the crippled children in the age group of 2-12 years and they will stay there." The nuns who stayed back in Baghdad are Sisters Dency, Rosalyn, Theresina (all from Kerala) and M. Joseph (Bangladesh). MoC has about 650 centres in 123 countries run by about 4,000 nuns and sisters. Apart from the MoC nuns, four students are among some 30 Indian nationals who have decided to stay back in Iraq even as the Indian mission in Baghdad has moved to the Jordanian capital Amman anticipating a U.S.-led attack on Iraq. The four students have stayed back in Najaf, one of the holy cities. Others who had opted to stay back are eight charity workers in Karbala and 14 businessmen in various parts of Iraq. --Indo-Asian News Service _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.goanet.org/mailman/listinfo/goanet
