SITUATION IN KUWAIT
Either today or tomorrow, if not tomorrow then the day after tomorrow but surely it will come and finally today 20th of March 2003 at about 5.00 A.M. it came when USA started bombing of Iraq. As expected, the final okay from UN was not sought even though USA and UK said it was not necessary as earlier resolution is enough. If France, Russia, China, Germany and other smaller nations had to give assurance to USA that they would vote for War then the credibility of UN would have been intact. By being rigid France, China and Russia showed that they will not bend their principles of uprightness inspite of tremendous pressure brought on them by USA & UK and thus provoked USA and Britain to go alone. Many of the world leaders are questioning the prerogative of USA & UK in taking the law into their own hands in starting the war against Iraq. But no body other than USA & UK is capable to silence the brute might of Saddam Hussain who is creating disorder in this region. Saddam Hussain is the most brutal leader of this planet after Hitler. He now seeks the blessings of UN to protect him but he forgot that the same UN was totally rebuffed by him earlier when he invaded Kuwait on 2nd August 1990. He sheds crocodile tears in the name of Arab and Islam but infact he is the one who is responsible to damage Arab unity and harm the interest of Islam by his action against Islamic and Arabic Kuwait and Islamic Iran. He was responsible to waste the God given resources of Islamic Kuwait, that is, Oil when he set on fire innumerable Oil Wells of Kuwait before surrendering to American force in the liberation of Kuwait war in Febraury 1991. His acquisition of deadly weapons is only to destroy Arab and Ismalic nations, besides that he cannot do anything. He can kill and destroy only his own brothers in race and religion. He cannot do anything to Jewish Israel or Christian West or Hindu India or Buddhist Japan. In the current liberation of Iraq war the fate of Iraq under Saddam Hussain will be exactly similar to that of Afghanistan under Taleban.
War is war, during war time everyone is afraid. The residents of Kuwait, citizens as well as expatriates are under tension knowing not what will happen tomorrow. Today a number of times Sirens sounded making the residents alert and as a matter of fact, the sound of Sirens always create panic though by the grace of God no untoward incident has taken place as far as I know. All Goans are safe. Many of the companies sent their employees home after listening to the sound of Sirens while some other companies have provided their employees with Masks to protect from the ill effects of biological weapons. Some companies already instructed their staff not to report for duty from Saturday 22nd of this month till further notice. In Kuwait City which is the capital of State of Kuwait, you can see lot of mediamen representing top world news agencies busy with their work of getting information from here and there. The streets are not as full with cars as normally should be. Even today at 6.30 p.m. Mass in the Church only skeleton attendance was there. Many of the companies have returned the passport of their employees while other companies may follow the suit shortly. Innumerable people are flooding the Airport to leave from Kuwait on their own purchase of tickets; some of the Airlines are offering highly discounted rates. Though the situation is panicky yet everything is under control and at moments it does not look like the war is going on in the neighboring country touching Kuwaiti borders. Law and order situation is normal, no fear of any disorder. Shops and shopping centers are open; food items are available as normal so also any other items are available. There is no scarcity of anything. Lot of raids is put on illegal residents and everyday more and more of them are caught for not having valid residence permits to stay in Kuwait. Illegal residents are the direct victims of the current situation. People are constantly glued to TV and Radio Sets, mainly TV listening to CNN, BBC and other channels to get the first hand information. Today India is playing against Kenya in the semi-final of World Cup Cricket Match yet cricket is totally shadowed by the war tension. Otherwise, when India plays cricket, everyone rushes to watch India playing but not today.
As per my information lot of people in Goa not only our dearest, nearest and closest but even others are praying for our safety and peace in this part of the world. Many of my friends are calling me from Goa asking not only of my safety but also of all Goons and others residing in Kuwait. I very much appreciate their concern towards us. Among the Tiatrists who closely associated with me during their regular visits to Kuwait only Ben Evangelisto phoned me to enquire about my safety. He also showed his concern for every one of us. Many of my old colleagues during the time of invasion of Kuwait are no more in Kuwait yet they showed their concern for our safety and as I understand they are praying very hard for the peace in this area. Also, many of my friends and colleagues in "Goa Kuwait Solidarity Centre" who are no more in Kuwait now also showed their concern for our safety. For all those who are concerned about our safety I must tell them that by the grace of God today no harm was done to us, we are o.k. Kuwait from where we earn our daily bread is safe and well protected by God. While thanking for all who showed their concern for our well being and safety, let us all unitedly pray for our safety, for the safety of all the residents and citizens of Kuwait, for the safety of Kuwait and the rulers of Kuwait and everyone involved in protecting Kuwait.
