----------------------------------------------------------------------- Documented by Goa Desc Documentation Service & circulated by Goa Civic & Consumer Action Network (GOA CAN)<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Ph:2252660 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- Government notifies terms, vacations for schools ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The Government has notified the terms and the vacations for Educational Institutions in this State for the academic year 2003-04.According to a DI press release, the first term declared is from June 9, 2003 to October 18, 2003 and the second term from November 10, 2003 to April 24, 2004.
The Diwali vacation will be held from October 20, 2003 to November 8, 2003, while the break for X'Mas is from December 24, 2003 to January 2, 2004.
The summer vacation declared is from April 26, 2004 to June 5, 2004.
Besides the vacations and breaks, schools are also entitled for public holidays for the calendar year 2003. The list has already been circulated to the institutions.
Also the heads of schools are authorised to declare 10 discretionary holidays. Out of the 10 discretionary holidays, heads of schools should declare 4 discretionary holidays adjoining to the public holidays for Ganesh Chaturthi, on August 30, September 2, 3 and 4, 2003.
The heads of schools may sanction remaining 6 discretionary holidays in consultation with Parents Teachers Association, village school committee.
The Non Teaching staff of the school will also be entitled for these discretionary holidays. However they will not be entitled for the two Restricted Holidays and also for the X'Mas break.
The total number of working days including the examinations days for the schools including Higher Secondary schools shall not be less than 220 days and the total number of instructional days shall not be less than 195 days during the academic year 2003-04. ----------------------------------- HERALD 21/03/03 page 5 -----------------------------------
