Indians in Kuwait safe: embassy >From Indo-Asian News Service Kuwait City, Mar 21 (IANS) The Indian embassy here Friday said all Indians in Kuwait, numbering around 367,000, were safe and there was no panic among them following the U.S. invasion of Iraq. About 2,000 more Indians are set to leave for India Saturday, with an equal number having flown out on Thursday. An Indian official said the Kuwait airport was still functional with an Air-India flight set to take off for India late Friday with around 400 people on board. Air-India and Indian Airlines are regularly operating flights out of Kuwait, he said. "Kuwait continues to be safe and secure and its residents, including the Indian community, remain relatively calm and are continuing with their normal activities," the Indian mission stated. It added that the Kuwaiti government had made elaborate arrangements for civil defence and additional security forces have been deployed for the protection of Kuwaiti residents. The embassy attributed the rise in traffic to the closure of schools for vacations and the return of some hired workers here. It said most of the exams conducted by India's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had ended and the remaining were expected to be completed without any problems. The Indian embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) issued a statement saying the situation did not justify any cause for panic. It said that it did not envisage the need to evacuate any member of the embassy in Abu Dhabi, or the consulate general in Dubai. --Indo-Asian News Service rm/vm _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.goanet.org/mailman/listinfo/goanet
