VI DAY OF WAR AGAINST IRAQ.

Today 25th March 2003 is the sixth day of the war against Iraqi regime. According to news reports coalition forces headed by USA are approaching Saddam Hussain Palaces in Baghdad. Once again our day went smoothly today without any untoward incident even though at midnight and at noon we heard Sirens twice. Like any other day during the normal circumstances residents move about freely. Once again let me assure our dearest and nearest and also everyone interested in knowing our situation here that there is no panicky situation. According to the latest information penetrating into Kuwait from Goa, our people are still restless about our safety. By the grace of God, so far no fear of life. Many phone calls are coming from Goa enquiring of our well-being. Yesterday tiatrist comedian Jesus twice called my residence to enquire about our safety. Though I was not available at home he kept messages with my people here showing his concern not only for me but for all Goans and residents in Kuwait. It is nice to know that people like tiatrist Jesus enquiring about our safery. In fact comedian Jesus did not enjoy my hospitality when he came to Kuwait to participate in tiatro yet he showed his great hearted concern for us. Unfortunately, the very tiatrists who flirted with me like Pamprelam, enjoyed my hospitality and kindness (and one of them betrayed me with a Judas Kiss - a la Rostad) so far did not even bother to know whether we are dead or alive. When many of them come to Kuwait they act like Dr. Jackeyls and once they are back to Goa they act like Mr. Hydes. I am sure few of them may be composing songs and comedy skits to defame us as some of them did during the invasion of Kuwait.

The recent meeting held in Panaji - Goa to condemn America for waging a war against Iraq is a subject of discussion here with many Goans. As I said earlier, by organizing such meetings nothing will happen, in fact on the contrary the organizers of that meeting showed how bias they are in their approach in tackling such cases. In 1990 August 2nd, when Iraq invaded Kuwait and liquidated it from the planet, with the exception of Roland Martins none of the speakers who addressed that recent meeting showed his condemnation in any public meeting. I would have admired them if they had to join those Goans who showed their condemnation to Iraq by organizing meetings and rallies in Panjim soon after the invasion of Kuwait. American involvement currently in Iraq is not to invade Iraq and make its own territory but only to liquidate the regime of Saddam Hussain. Whereas, in August 2nd 1990 Iraq actually invaded Kuwait and because of this condemnation of Iraq was imperative but our so called great leaders and intellectuals failed in their duty then to condemn Iraq the way they did against USA in the recent meeting. Goans in Kuwait and their nearest and dearest should take very strong note of this. Today Goans in Kuwait are enjoying special affection from the Kuwaitis, it is not for any other reason but because of the strong solidarity Goans shown to Kuwait during the invasion of Kuwait. That solidarity with Kuwait has helped many Goans to get employment facilities in Kuwait and if this affection and closeness will survive then the meetings like the one had recently in Goa had to be stopped. Otherwise such meetings will harm the interest of Goans in getting employment in Kuwait. Men like Luizinho Faleiro, Dr. Wilfred Desouza and others should know this. Goans in Kuwait must debate on this point instead of remaining silent spectators.

If anyone think by condemning USA in public forum in Goa or elsewhere he will change the course of action in the current war against Iraq then he is sadly mistaken. These type of meetings will have no effect. Issuing a call to boycott products of USA is a foolishness. USA did not care for its Veto wielding colleagues in the Security Council and will it care for our tin pot politicians and one sided speakers? The people who oppose current war against Iraqi regime are not providing any solution to arrest the brutalities of Saddam Hussain. They have no solution to liberate Iraqi people and this region from the brutalities of Saddams regime. They want USA & UK to sit idle and allow Saddam Hussain to invade Kuwait once again? To allow Saddam to use chemical weapons against Kurds? To allow Saddam to kill lakhs of Muslims in the war against Iran? To allow Saddam to commit genocide against his own people? To allow Saddam to send his brute troops into Kuwait and rob and rape Goans who were peacefully working? Once again I state here that if USA and UK do not take a lead to liquidate the harsh regime of Saddam Hussain then no body on this planet will be able to do, leave aside the few Goans who organized and addressed the current meeting in Panjim.

A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.
