IX DAY OF WAR AGAINST IRAQ.
Today Friday 28th March 2003 is the ninth day of the war against Iraqi regime. Due to my inability to post on this topic for the last two days I was overwhelmed by so many messages from different people not only from Goa but also from around the World who are regularly reading my postings in this forum asking me why I have stopped. I must tell all these people thru this forum that since individually it is going to be a lengthy process to reply each one, I have not stopped but skipped two days for being unable to do so due to some unavoidable circumstances. I will try my best to continue on with this topic as regularly as I am able to do.
Yesterday at around 12.15 noon Iraq fired missile into Kuwait but nothing happened to anyone. The missile landed near Kuwait City carried no traces of biological or chemical weapon and it was shot down by a Patriot anti-missile battery. Before the start of the war, Indian Embassy organized a meeting for selected Indians at Embassy auditorium and it was addressed by Indian Ambassador. During his briefing Ambassador told the audience that as per the official information he received, Kuwait is well protected by Patriots which can intercept any missile coming from Iraq. Yet during the war anything can happen and so far nothing worst has happened is a big blessing. We are all fine in Kuwait, Goans as well as other residents and citizens. People move around freely, go to work as usual, attend their religious services, do their purchasing as usual from the co-operatives and others stores. Today being Friday�s public holiday, expatriates thronged in Kuwait City as if nothing is happening. Airport is open and flights to India though rescheduled are regular too. Telephones are ringing and people are exchanging messages from & to Kuwait. Though sometimes explosive sounds create explosive fear in our hearts yet we cope up with it as if it is normal. Though sound of Sirens creates chills in our marrow yet we are adapted to live with it and in fact we are living with it. May God protect Kuwait from where we earn our sustenance and all the residents of Kuwait. May God give strength and guidance to coalition forces headed by USA & UK to defeat the current Iraqi regime which is posing a great threat to humanity.
Now the war is heading for crucial phase since Saddam�s special force known as Republican Guards are encountering coalition forces. Republican Guards also known as elite force is a specially trained military force very loyal to Saddam Hussain and his regime. This military force first time I saw on 2nd August 1990 when they came to invade Kuwait. On that day I had very close encounter with them at about 6.00 A.M. in Kuwait City when they caught me while I was coming out of my building to go to work. Later on they started coming to my Flat 6 times a day in different batches just to check my Flat, see what books-magazines-papers I am reading and what articles I am writing etc. This encounter lasted for first four days till they were replaced by different units. The Republican Guards are a well built & well trained force, looks very aggressive and intelligent too. They look like hungry for fighting and thirsty for human blood. They did not rob Kuwait like other soldiers who followed them but they are rapists of first grade. This behaviour of theirs surprised me because in Iraq sex was not taboo and yet when they invaded Kuwait the first thing they targeted was females. Poor Philipinas when they came to know of this brutal inhumanity of Republican Guards they along with their menfolk disappeared from Kuwait city. When they invaded Kuwait it was very easy for them as they encountered no resistance. It was just like a walkover as Bharati Army got over Goa in December 1961. But will they have easy going against highly talented American and British forces? Surely NOT. I am sure this Republican Guards or elite force of Saddam Hussain and all the other special forces of Iraqi regime will meet with their Waterloo in Baghdad only from the coalition forces. The reason is this that Kuwait of 2nd August 1990 is not what they will face in Baghdad but they will face highly trained American and British forces who are skillfully equipped with highly sophisticated weapons. Only the time will give testimony to my statement.
The victory for coalition forces must come and that time is not very far. The brutal regime of Saddam Hussain must come to an end and only USA and UK along with their coalition partners can bring about the end of Saddam Hussain and his regime. All those countries and peoples all around the globe siding with Saddam�s regime are doing great disservice to humanity and future generations. By supporting Iraq under Saddam is supporting injustice and inhumanity. Hence, all those nations and peoples who support current Iraqi regime are unjust and inhuman and as such they have no right to raise their voices against injustice and human rights violations and this includes some microscopic elements in Goa who organized the recent meeting at Panaji against USA & UK. According to my information there is going to be a move in the West to boycott Goa from Charter and other tourists coming from West mainly USA, UK, Western Europe and other nations friendly to USA & UK. Boycott of Goa may be in the offing soon. Let us see now if boycott of American goods by few tin pot Goans will have bearing on American economy or boycott of Goan tourism by the West will have bearing on Goan economy. Also, there may be another move to stop further recruitment of Goans into this area as concerned people are very much disappointed over the backing given to Iraq thru the recent meeting at Panaji. All the lovers of Kuwait, supporters of Kuwait Goans and opponents of Saddam Hussain and his regime must raise their voices in unison and forcefully.
