XIII DAY OF WAR AGAINST IRAQ.

Today Monday 1st April 2003 is the 13th day of the war against Iraqi regime. For the last 3 days absolutely there was no untoward incident occurred in Kuwait though in Iraq coalition forces are fighting a fierce battle against Iraqi regime to dethrone Saddam and his gang from the power. Today only once I could hear the sound of Sirens at around noon but that too created no panic. Kuwait Airport is open to the traffic as usual and flights are going without any hitch. Traffic on the road is as congested as any other day and public transport by both the Bus companies are regular and people travel by public buses even late night. Taxi services are normal too. People are working as normal. Nobody is seen wearing Mask though lot of false stories is initiated from outside Kuwait. People in Kuwait are absolutely calm these days. Goan community is cool, they are busy engrossed in their jobs as other communities. The only thing some Goan community members missing are their Dances in five star hotels, Soccer at Sour Ground and Tiatro at Indian Arts Circle or elsewhere. It is not only Goan community that has halted their activities but even other communities. In these circumstances this time there will be no Easter Ball which again will be a great miss for our dancing heroes and heroines. In these circumstances there will be no foot-ball at Sour Ground and elsewhere because of which many of our so called Maradonas and Peles will suffer from physical and mental depressions including the team organizers. Because of this lot of goondageri & dadageri of fake goondas and fake dadas will be stopped during our soccer matches. All these dadas and goondas are now turned cockroaches because they show their ugly existence only at Sour Ground otherwise they are non entities and cowards. In these circumstances there will be no Tiatro in any of the main halls and as such many of the tiatrists will face disappointment for not being able to perform on the stage. Those who were trying to organize not one but two tiatros on the same day are made silence by the sound of the war. All those tin pot tiatrists and organizers who were doing their dadageri and mijeas-geri must ask forgiveness from God for their pride because pride has its fall. Now the time is come to say Dadai na ani puddveim na. "Devachea marank khuim avaz na - to gheta takach dukhta".

Now it is time for all of us to ponder very hard about our future in this part of the world. If War takes longer time lot of employment will be cut because of lack of business. As it is Gold Shops in Kuwait City are thinning. People are reluctant to do heavy purchasing, only essential items are going like hot cakes. There is a saying in amchi mae bhas Konkani Eka Patkeak lagon khuim tarum buddlam. Zait ghoddiek amchea ghorvak ani patkak lagon hem zuzachem vign amcher Devan daddlam. Devanuch amkam rakhche. Tiatro, dance ani foot-ball "gelo dobean", what is important now is peace and thru peace our job security. Some tiatrits are restless, they are least bothered about the prevailing situation, their world is only tiatro. Some among the small foot-ball playing circle is only interested in foot-ball as if we are come here to play foot-ball only. What will be the fate of ours if we lose our jobs because of this war? In the last war of invasion of Kuwait innumerable Goans lost their jobs and many of them out of shock died and more than that are still suffering the effect of invasion of Kuwait. On top of it Dr. Willie and company who are supposed to be intelligent enough not to antagonize Kuwait organized and addressed a meeting in Panjim to condemn USA. Even the Government of India refrained from using the word condemn but Willie and company did. Because of this meeting if Goans lose job opportunities in Kuwait then what will be the outcome? I dont command them not to air their views on this war. War is always terrible and should be avoided but if this war against Iraq is bad than the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq was good Dr. Willie and company? Why didnt Willie and company condemn openly the invasion of Kuwait in 1990? Dr. Willie and company are surely trying to gain some advantage of the current situation for their own local and personal politics. The people from Saligao especially the dependents of Kuwaitkars and Gulfakars must reprimand Dr. Willie for being unjust. The Saligao Club which was formed in Kuwait some years back by the residents of Saligao must condemn Dr. Willie and show their love for Kuwait from where they earn their sustenance and support their families back home. Their Silence at this hour will prove that these Saligaocars are also subscribing to the views expressed by Dr. Willie. The Cordeiros, the FMs and AMs, the Desouzas, the Fernandeses and the Remedioses must now show their true colours. I understand Claude Alvares played a major role in this meeting. Claude Alvares is a non-Goan and I dont remember he ever condemned Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Mathanay Saldanha besides others is another person who played a role in this meeting. As I understand many of the constituents of Cortalim working in Kuwait have decided now only to initiate a move to oust Mathanay Saldanha from his MLAship in the coming election. Even the nearest and dearest of the Cortalim constituency Kuwaitkars are advised to make a solid move to oust Mathanay Saldanha in the coming election, as per my information.
