Asit,

You seem to be a very lucky person. Thanks for sharing the info
with all of us.

I can buy canned ripe jakfruit here which comes from the Phillipines.
I've tried it but it's not very good. Beggars can't be choosers so
I do buy it sometimes.

In India, Sri Lanka and in their neighboring countries in south-east Asia, Jakfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is abundant. Jakfruit, the worlds largest fruit, is only one of few fruits that is popular equally, unripe(green) or ripe.

Since no two Jakfruits are similar in shape, size or
weight, packaging and shipping the ripe Jakfruits over long
distances had been a recognized problem all along, in
India, in Australia, in south-east Asia and in Brazil. That
left all the growers in a given area only the local markets
to sell their products, resulting in a not so lucrative
price.

Economic solution: canned unripe Jakfruit.

In India, fresh unripe Jakfuits had been used as a
vegetable during summer for ages. The abundant unripe
Jakfruit had become a popular food item with preparations
titled

Jakfruit Tikka
Jakfruit Pulao
Jakfruit Chicken
Kashmiri Kanthal
Jakfruit Seed Phirni
and many many more.

And now the unripe Jakfruit and the roasted seeds from ripe
Jakfruits are showing up in the recipes of western
cuisines. The world-renowned Fairchild Tropical Garden in
Miami, Florida is offering recipes for

Jakfruit Casserole, and
Jakfruit Patties

Here we take a look at a relatively smaller unripe Jakfruit
of unknown variety that I picked from a tree in Hollywood,
Florida. The tree owner hated with passion the aroma of
ripe Jakfruits. So he wanted me to do him a favor by
picking all the unripe Jaks from his tree.
