Fred, I had thought you'd read in between the lines there.
Indeed, a bureaucrat, and specially in these times, is incapable of sparking off with any politician of any hue or colour. whether he is in the ruling camp or in the wasted field. The thinking is " what if he makes a come-back?" Nevertheless, Ramakant Khalap is in no position to eat into anybody's votes bank. He might soon not be in a position to eat from a decent plate even. Here, the political chess game of high caliber is not ruled out. But then, who was asking for it? False bravado and taking advantage of one's position almost always rebounds back. Remember the famous Goan saying? "Goeantlem tutta ani uskean podta" (Neclace can only fall in one's lap if broken) Khalap and others have only themselves to blame. And bureaucrats will never grow real bones in their backbones, That is for sure, except for isolated instances like Sanjit Rodrigues and perhaps maybe a couple of others whom I do not know. Give me a man who will risk being posted in Siberia and I will show you a real straight backed bureaucrat. Our modern day bureacrats have only grown long tongues and tough knees rather than strong backbones and hard knuckles.
