A famous export from India, wherever they go this
reputation
justifiably
precedes them.
Despite the brilliance of individual Indians they are
collectively
tarred
with the same brush.
Catholic Goans on the other hand have an advantage,
more so because of
their
religion. In my travels around the globe I have
witnessed this on many
occasions.

However there are 2 ways to combat these greedy
customs officials.
1) Stand your ground and refuse to bribe them.
Speaking loudly tell
them you
are not prepared to bribe them. This may cause you a
bit of
inconvenience,
but you will be treated fairly as the customs
officials do not like it
publicised that they are corrupt.
2)For those who can afford it, travel business class
on Air India. The
hostesses who meet you speed you through effortlessly,
with no
disruption
from the greedy customswalhas.
I have experienced both on a number of occasions.

The quicker we have an International Airport in Goa
the better it will
be
for all. Though we will have to be vigilant so that
none of this greed
filters through.
