Dear Cecil:
I can envisage your predicament along with numerous other GoaTelecom e-subscribers. I do not have an account with GoaTel, as I reside abroad, but my relatives back home do. However, I am willing to participate in a formal protest to GoaTelecom for these abrupt and erratic changes --without any thought or regard for customers. Besides the normal e-correspondence, this will obviously impact a lot of business that is heavily reliant on email services.
Also, it is interesting to note that:

Now thats something to think about -- 16,000+ GoaTel emailers, -- even if half this number adds the voice of protest, its enough to resonate into the ears of the authorities, for some immediate action.
Best wishes,

Dear Mr. Vaz,
I couldn't agree with you more regarding the blundering of GoaTelecom and the lack of consumer awareness in Goa. I had tried to get in touch with Frederick Noronha on Tuesday to start some sort of protest against this inept 'migration' from Goatelecom to Sancharnet but he was 'out-station'. Fred had once taken Goatelecom to court (or planned to at least) because of the frequent change of e-mail addresses.
I am one of those who have had to spend a lot of time and money (and lost a lot of 'giraik') on changing over from
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
to
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
to
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
and now to
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Keep in mind that messages sent to goatelecom.com account will only be forwarded to sancharnet.in from 30th June onwards. All mails received in this week will be stored at goatelecom.com and NOT forwarded to sancharnet.in. I have taken precautions for a seamless rollover (thanks to Gene Lobo - contact available on request!) but most Goatelecom.com users are in the dark.
You can expect total e-mail pandemonium on Monday.
Also keep in mind...
1) Sancharnet e-mail box cannot be accessed through any Eudora version below 5 as they do not have 'authentication' (whatever that means).
2) Renewal payments for Goatelecom accounts were accepted this week and Customer Service Centres. I renewed my account on the 24th but till date the hours have not been alloted. TODAY they inform me that it will be done next week!! So I have about 22 minutes left (not enough for a weekend!) for no fault of mine.
I somehow liked the name GoaTelecom. Had a distinct identity. Sancharnet is rather too large an entity.
Will Fred (or someone) take the initiative to start a protest and haul up these guys at GoaTelecom for their bugling. Maybe an E-group at Yahoo can be formed initially? My full support assured.
Cecil

Dear Muriel & Mario: Remember this: In the world of commerce the Customer is King. As long as you let the service provider/supplier get away with substandard services they will do it. In a world of fast-paced technological changes, there will be periodical upgrades, resulting in minor inconveniences. Can these transitions be smoother? You bet! With a bit of foresight and planning much better service can be provided. However, like most other things in Goa, there is hardly a thought put in regarding inconveniences to the public. The Goa Telecom Telephone directory is just one example, and its a ridiculous waste of funds and effort to issue an already defunct (outdated) phone book. As a consumer you have all the right to protest, --for you pay for this service-- and the best way to voice consumer complaints is via mass media the Newspapers and Internet (e-propagation) can play significant roles, to this end. Goa can be an ideal state, only if the Goan public is NOT complacent. You guys are creating awareness -- Awareness being the operative work. I am glad you are sowing the seeds of awareness that will bear fruit sooner than later- voices will be heard and progress will be made! Best wishes, Joe Vaz

[Dear Netters, Kindly send your messages to our NEW address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] We have just confirmed that till 30th June, BSNL-Goa will not be redirecting mail from the [EMAIL PROTECTED] to the [EMAIL PROTECTED], even though they promised to do so in a message to subscribers. Till then, can you imagine the plight of 16,000 emailers in Goa? Should we use the new one and lose mail till the 30th? Or should we wait till the 30th and risk someone using our Sancharnet account because of the open password they have sent us? This is the fifth time in six years that a change of email address is being forced on subscribers. It must be a record of sorts - especially this time without immediate forwarding facilities to the new address. BSNL in Goa is either oblivious to the chaos and tremendous hardship caused to subscribers or they just do not care! Apologies for the inconvenience. Please do not forget to use our @sancharnet.in address. Solidarity. Muriel & Mario.
