Dear Goanetters, Nice to read Floriano's point of view. I am just interspersing my comments in his (verbatim, naturally) text. Let us close this topic,it may become boring.Floriano can have the last word.....as long as it does not rake up something else. Regards,

As is well understood, TidBits is mostly my reaction to the news > items in the papers etc. St. Xavier's HS has been in "headline" news and > therefore my reactions and follow-ups.Floriano Miguel:The management of St.Xavier's HS,Moira is capable of running the institution. The Directorate of Education and the Goa Board of Eduction are capable of ensuring that in conforms to the rules. It has a representative PTA elected annually. I do not believe it needs Floriano or his TidBits to run the school. Putting his opiniated views on the net hardly helps. > > It is most appropriate for Miguel Braganza to defend his own sister. > However, the goal I have set for myself, as an ex-student of this school,is not so much as to malign the management of the school but to expose the > lack of application of mind by the management of the Diocesan Society of > Education (DSE) under Fr. Tony Salema. In short, what I am saying is that, > if the top management dances to the tune of many fiddles, it is hardly going > to do a good job of it.Floriano Miguel: Ex-students do not have any divine rights to interfere in the managemet of a school. His views on the DSE he should share with the DSE.I believe he knows the email ID and phone numbers as well as the location of the DSE. Not all people who I defend are my relatives.Fatima happens to be my sister. That is only incidental as far as this isssue is concerned. > > Also, to come back to the school management, it is particularly interesting to note the reason given for the recent sacking of the trained KG teacher of 8 years, who happens to be the parent of one of the victim students (fourth to go) Quote Since the KG classroom is renovated, the teachers have been changed > Unquote. I have personally told the Principal (Fr. Manuel Fernandes) that the management could have done a service to the sacked teacher by giving her a fresh coat of paint when sending her home.Floriano Miguel: Interesting anecdote and quote, indeed. The said teacher (and the painting) is no concern of my sister. The preprimary section (she was a KG teacher) is not part of the High School or,for that matter even of the primary school. The Headmistress has no role in it.The Parish Priest manages it for the Church.I do not now if the pre-primary/KG concerns the DSE. > This year's SSC results of the school is 58 percent pass. > St. Xavier's High School, Moira was a 100 percenter in the past years as > well as one of the top schools in Goa.Floriano Miguel: Why is Floriano dreaming ? How many years did St.Xavier's HS have 100% results for SSC and what was the pass percentages in Std.VIII and IX during those years ? St.Xavier's was never 'one of the top schools in Goa', ( I do not believe even schools like St.Thomas Boys HS lays claim to that at present.)not under Mr. D'Cruz who founded it,not even under my father( who managed it when Floriano was a student),nor under the DSE.It did get 100% results when Tomazinho Cardoz (ex-MLA)was the Principal/Headmaster.The students detained then affected the results thereafter. The normal age at SSC is 15 years:St Xavier's HS has students upto 23 years old in SSC.Should they become life members of the class or go home, according to Floriano's management theory? Also interesting is the reason why Floriano withdrew his daughter from Std.IV of the same school,if he really believes it was 'one of the top schools' and he has a role to play in its management. He could have advised the school as a member of the PTA(perhaps even become its chairperson! ) and improved the school before my sister,Fatima, was transferred there. Why did Floriano withdraw his daughter from his Alma Mater,a 'top school',the closest school to his residence and a school that he would like to manage by remote control via the Goanet, printouts of TidBits and assistance of ( disgruntled?)teachers doing a dis-service to their employers and part-time service to Floriano by feeding him erroneous information, pasting and circulating printouts of TidBits even in the school premises?? Why Floriano? Why? There is a Konkani( as also in Marathi and Hindi) saying that freely translates thus,' Never shit in the plate from which you eat.' These teachers could learn something from it. > > Also noteworthy is the fact that as many as 19 students are presumed to have failed in ALL SUBJECTS (this info is thro' one of the school teachers and > is being verified) Floriano Miguel: Verify first.Post on the net later. The SSC Board publishes a booklet on results, which is in public domain.Just for the record,NOT A SINGLE STUDENT of St.Xavier's HS,Moira,FAILED IN ALL SUBJECTS at SSC exam of March 2003.Not one...and definitely not nineteen that Floriano's source has so generously mis-informed him.I have had it verified from the records.Floriano can access www.goaresults.nic.in if he likes. He has net accessibility. > > In view of the above, even a blind person can see that there is more of > politiking than teaching in the school.Floriano Miguel:Floriano is perhaps one of the' Blind men of Hindoostan' ! > > Since Miguel Braganza has mentioned Adv. Aires Rodrigues' name in his post, I would request Miguel to take note of the remarks made by Aires > (representing the 2 students) in his letter dated 17th. April, 2003 to the > Dy. Director of Education re: condonation/regularisation of their absence, > a copy of which is marked to the Headmistress.Floriano Miguel: I have read that letter and the others, too. They are half as interesting as the complaint and retractions of the alleged rape case at Goa College of Art....and as incorrect. Finally, the parents represented by Adv.Aires at the behest of Floriano, realised that one cannot ask a favour while making allegations in the same letter.Their last letter bears testimony to that. It does not matter how well you play in one leg of the two-leg semi-finals: it is the score in the finals (at the final whistle) that counts.Expertise in dribling is one thing and scoring is another. The recently victorious Indian Hockey team will tell you that, too. The most important part is that the two students had their absence condoned, results declared and their parents had them re-admitted for SSC in the same school managed for the DSE by the very same headmistress and manager/vicar that Floriano continues to malign. Wake up to the Reality,Floriano I hope this controversy comes to rest. The two boys should not be disturbed. They are in the SSC. Two more failures will not improve the passing percentage.Detention in Std.IX would have been a better option for the school. It can still hold back the form for want of attendance or other reasons. That Fatima has not used these options so far speaks of her generosity, not her inability to do so as per the rules in force. As the students who have answered SSC since she was transferred here as headmistress.(The senior Maths teacher is no longer qualified to be a Headmistress as the minimum qualifications have been changed by the government this year. Ironically,Barbara is qualified for the post now). They will tell you what they owe to her. Miguel Braganza --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
