Srikar Kurade, Glen Peters and Felix Fernandes were acquitted while the judgement on Zacarias Rodrigues is pending as he is absconding. Poojari was gunned down on 23 November 1999 at Kharebhand, Margao, when he was entering his car. (GT)

"The blood sample was taken some days (more than ten days) after the incident. The delay was crucial. The interval must have wiped out any traces of drugs," an officer informed. (GT) FINED FOR VIOLATING ANTI-MALARIA NORMS: The Directorate of Health Services has imposed a fine of over Rs.20 lakh on contractors for the period of January till June for violations of the prescribed anti-malaria norms. Correspondingly, over 5600 health cards have been issued during the same period, with 1430 issued only in June. (H) ENFORCE FISHING BAN: The Goenchea Ramponnkarancho Ekvott has said that trawlers should not be allowed to fish within five kilometers of the shore throughout the year under the provision of the Goa Marine Regulation Act. It will meet the Chief Minister and request him to enforce the Act. (GT) GIRL DROWNS OF SADA: A rendezvous by the rocks at Sada beach, Vasco, ended in a tragedy, when 17-year-old Venuka Nagraj drowned in sea on Wednesday. Harbour police said four students, two boys and two girls, of a Sada-based school had gone out on a date at Sada beach on Wednesday. The students were seated on the rocks when the girl, Venuka, of Sasmolem-Baina, was hit by a wave and got dragged into the sea. (H) FOR DEVELOPING 'PLANNED SLUMS': United Goans Democratic Party legislator from Cortalim, Mathany Saldanha, has strongly criticized the Goa Housing Board, for what he called developing "panned slums". In a statement issued here, Mr Saldanha claimed people in his Cortalim constituency run the risk of severe health hazards caused due to illegalities in housing developed by the Board at Salcete. (H) DIMPLOMA IN INVESTIGATION: Two polytechnic colleges in the State will offer a three-year 'Diploma in Investigation and Security Systems' from the current academic year. Initially, the course will commence at Government Polytechnic, Altinho, and Agnel Polytechnic, Verna. In all 30 seats each will be available to students.
