CHENNITHALA DEBUNKS REPORT OF CONG SPLIT: All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary, Ramesh Chennithala, may have specifically come to deliver the party's post-Shimla doctrines to its workers here, but the senior leader found himself doing much explaining on reports that the legislature wing is heading for yet another split. Mr Chennithala devoted much of his speech, at the meeting of office bearers and senior party workers held at the T B Cunha hall here, to explain that the reports of the legislature party in Goa splitting were "fabricated" and that there was no question of any such development. (H) "DHIRIO" DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN: 'The darkest hour is before the dawn,' goes the old adage, but it is not as dark for the "dhirio" (bullfights) enthusiasts, who of late are into organizing bullfights during the twilight hours. (NT) FOUR-LANE PROJECT: The PWD, the Town and Country Planning Department, the North Goa Planning and Development Authority and the Corporation of the City of Panaji have to do a lot of soul searching and home-work before the bulldozers begin moving at Campal to begin the operation to widen the 700-metre stretch of road from the Kala Academy to the Miramar roundabout. (Nandkumar Kamat in Glimpses-NT) "PENDING SINCE 60'S": As Deputy Director of PWD at that time, I was closely involved in the Town Plans for the cities of Panjim, Mapuca, Margao and Vasco da Gama, that had been prepared earlier, in the late fifties, by the Town Planning Department of the Overseas Ministry in Lisbon. Subsequently, on my appointment as Director PWD soon after Liberation, these plans were still being officially implemented during my tenure, till the time I left Goa in February 1963. In the case of Panjim, a broad marginal road was indeed planned, right from the old PWD building at Pato, running along Campal and skirting Miramar beach, all the way to Dona Paula. If it had been followed and implemented, it would have not only solved the problem of widening the existing Miramar Road but also provided Goa with one of the finest and long water-front Marinas.
