Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s concept of good governance is setting up new corporations. Corporations duplicate the activities of the state. They are a cruel drain on our cash-strapped exchequer and merely an opportunity to present the show by a politically appointed Chairman.
On being elected Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar promised to do everything possible to trim the bureaucracy. Not only has he reneged on his undertaking but he has gone to the other extreme of setting up even more corporations. He set up the Infrastructure Development Corporation to divest the powers of the then Deputy Chief Minister Ravi Naik who was also holding the all mighty PWD Portfolio. This Corporation continues to serve Parrikar's objective of keeping in check current PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar's activities as the Corporation is headed by the Chief Minister and does most of the tasks the PWD was doing. After having drastically saffronised the police force, Parrikar seeks to unleash the same saffron ideology on Education. He is finding some obstacles achieving his wicked goal through the Education department and so he has decided to set yet another Corporation. This time the Goa Education Development Corporation which obviously will be Chaired by no other than Parrikar himself and packed up with a couple of his chums to drain into the rural students in particular the evil saffron philosophy. If the Chief Minister dreams of setting up yet another Corporation lets hope that it is The Corporation for Eradication of Stray Animals and Garbage Disposal. Mr Parrikar, the Goans would back you on this one. And this one could definitely do with some of the Chief Minister’s IIT expertise. Ideally a solution to the above problems should have been sought two decades ago but it is not too late. Perhaps now is an opportune time to tackle these issues under the leadership of such an esteemed IIT graduate. Chief Minister – over to you. You have the Power – use your talents and make your people happy whilst putting poor dumb animals out of their misery.
