I did not get the original mail from Jose Dias. Sarcasm apart, brain drain has not affected
India. What would you rather have, an unemployed or frustrated Engineer doing nothing
or contributing at least a little bit of foreign exchange to the Indian treasury? It is pure
economics that contributes to the migration of people across borders. That does not mean
that one has to degrade oneself and do menial work. The pace at which India is producing
Engineers, there is no way of absorbing each and everyone! I am sure that the Indian
government would have acted, if it felt that the flight of manpower to the US was
affecting the country. We are in a democracy and nobody can be prevented from leaving
the country. One has to be proud of the fact that Indian labour is being sought worldwide
and directly or indirectly, it will prove beneficial to India.
A lot of peple come out and make random statements about brain drain.
I think one has to talk to each and every individual that leaves the shores
of India for better pastures. Most of the overseas Indians, that I have met, have a
lot of love and affection for India and many are willing to come back, if the
conditions are conducive.
