AIDS is a world-wide matter of concern while Goenkars have been worried about the never ending defections by their greedy MLAs. But the real matter of great concern to the people of this tiny state of ours are mosquitoes, stray cattle and the ever increasing population of stray dogs.
How long will Goans have to wait to be able to walk and drive down the streets without any hindrance from the mosquitoes, stray cattle and rabid dogs? Will it require one of our sitting MLAs or Ministers to be a victim of one of these three dreadful problems before the authorities wake up to reality and get their act together? Goa's Medical College has the best of doctors and relatively good equipment. What it lacks is proper hygiene and cleanliness within the premises. If there is a delay on the part of a doctor welcoming you at Goa Medical College you can be assured of a warm welcome by a pack of dogs who are regularly poised at the entrance of the hospital! A patient admitted for prostrate could end up stuck in the hospital with Malaria. You have to be careful walking down the wards least you are bitten by a rabid dog which would necessitate your transfer to the Rabies hospital at Ponda. We have had enough of lecturing by our Ministers. The Government keeps claiming that Malaria is under control but people keeping on dying from the disease. If not the mosquitoes it’s the stray cattle and the rabid dogs that will be the major cause of death in the years to come. While the politicians are busy defecting and amassing wealth who will save the lives of the common man who has become so vulnerable to mosquitoes, stray cattle and rabid dogs?
