Panel to study low-cost Kerala-Gulf flights >From Indo-Asian News Service
New Delhi, July 29 (IANS) The civil aviation ministry has set up a panel to study a proposal for low cost charter flights to the Gulf region from Kerala. People from Kerala currently have to pay steep airfares for flying to and from destinations in the Gulf. Keralites constitute a major chunk of Indians working in the Gulf. "A committee has been constituted to study the modalities of low cost operations from Kerala to the Gulf under the aegis of Air-India Charters Ltd," Civil Aviation Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha Tuesday. "This committee is yet to finalise its report. "The final decision will be taken after ascertaining the financial and economic viability of the project," said Rudy. While the operation of low cost charter flights would be a boon for Keralites, it is expected to affect operations of India's flag carrier Air-India, which charges steep fares during peak holiday seasons. --Indo-Asian News Service ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
