A Tearful Farewell to Rosario Rod. A five priests concelebrated Mass consisting of Chaplain Fr. Wolfango D'Silva, Fr. Dominic Alvares (sfx), Fr. Inacio Almeida, Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa and with Fr. Olavo Velho Pereira as the main celebrant who happens to be the neighbour of late Rosario was held today (7/8/03). As the Benaulim church of Holy Trinity is totally razed down and the construction of a new church building is yet to come up the funeral Mass was held at St. Anthony's Chapel, at Dangvaddo Benaulim, just opposite the Maria hall. Fr. Velho Pereira began the Mass by saying, "Although the newspapers in Goa said 'Konknni palkacho Uzvadd Paloulo' with the death of Rosario Rodrigues, - Konknni palkacho Uzvadd kednach palchona ani Rosario-n khel'lo vaur sodanch dusreank uzvadd diet rautolo." Fr. Freddy in his short but concise sermon praised the good work of late Rosario so much so that he said the public as well as his fellow artists have acknowledged that Rosario is the Shakespeare of Konkani stage. Fr.Freddy further said that 'Rosario Rodrigues-an konknni palkar khubuch novllam keleant'. The large crowd could not be accommodated in the chapel premises. All walks of people were seen come to pay their last respect. Police bandabost was well organised and the traffic was well control. A lot of tiatrists were present and many were seen in tears. Late Rosario was felicitated by the Government of Goa, at the hands of the Chief Minister at the function organised by Kala Academy - Goa, to celebrate the TIATR DAY on 17th April 2002, but Rosario could not attend the same as he was on medication in a hospital in Mumbai. - Ruzar, khoim mevtolo??? the answer was always "Longuinha-kode". And yes, he was there !! If not... he would soon arrive with his TVS moped. But now, not anymore........ Good bye - Ruzar bab.
