Santosh,
I found Dr. Beyerstein's article readable and interesting. I thought it was a
little simplistic though, and a tad bit chauvinistic, at least in its title. The mind
is a powerful thing. IMO, faith and positive thoughts are just as important to
healing as anything else.
There is also a lot left unsaid about what Dr. Beyerstein simply dismisses as
'fringe practices in "alternative medicine"'. From what I understand, Chinese
medicine is very old, tried and tested, science. Same can be said about Ayurveda. In
my opinion, but I'm not in the healing business, you will find "alternate" medicine
becoming more and more re-accepted in mainstream healing.
To summarize, I think there is room for home remedies in modern healing, just as
much as there is for "alternate" medicine, western medicine, and prayer. So, if an
old lady makes you kneel down while she sprinkles holy water on you, and it makes you
feel good, go for it!
