Miguel,

What exactly are 'anteran' (in Konkani).. we used to have them in our backyard
in Goa. It does not look anywhere close to Seetaphal pictured at the website.
It used to be green with sort of cell structure. Once opened, it had a stem and
white in coloured, sweet contents with seeds.

Thanks,
Nagesh

Dear Gabe,
Peninsular India ,Africa,Antartica and Latin America once formed part of
Gondwana land.China was part of Laurasia.
The Solanaceae family contains chillies, brinjals, tomato, potato, tobacco and
the Cape Gooseberry. Brinjals have wild relatives in India (Solanum
torvum, etc),the erect chillies(Tarvoti or Lovangi mirchi) are also supposed
to have pre-dated the Arabs and the Portuguese in India. It is eminently
possible that they were natives.... or came with the chunk that separated
from the super-continent to form India. The bell peppers were brought in
from Latin America as was cashew.
Miguel
