NEW KONKANI ALBUM IN KUWAIT.

While bowing down my head before the renowned melody king of Goa Alfred Rose for producing first ever Konkani Audio Cassette and thereby creating a way for others to follow in his foot-steps, yet another Konkani Audio Cassette was released in Kuwait. It was released on 8th August 2003 at Indian Arts Circle Funaitees during the One Act Play and Solo Singing competitions organized by Konkani Heritage Kuwait. The Cassette Gorkar was released thru the hands of Mr. Hipolito. Thanks to KHKs benevolence in giving Michael DSilva all the privileges to release his 2nd Album, the Cassette carry 12 songs sung by different singers namely Naphie Rods 3 solos: first the title song Ghorkar, second Sweet 16 and the third Xitachi Boxi; Michael DSilvas 4 solos: first Govio Zanvoi, second Bail Kamank Lagtoch, third Padri and the fourth Unthank Rantam; Ben Evangelistos 2 solos: first Bebdo and the second Pedo; Osvi Viegas one duet Poilem Bhurgem with Felcy and the other a solo Ekloch Put and one solo by Edward. The musical score for this Album was provided by Maestro Josinho and Lyrics for all the songs were composed by Michael himself.

This Album was immediately kept on sale during the show but many Konkani lovers and Goans instead of purchasing there and helping the producer to recover what he spent to produce this cassette volunteered to purchase from Non-Goan/Anti-Goan & Non-Konkani/Anti-Konkani Cassette Sellers thru their outlets. It is a pity that many of our Goans instead of promoting and patronizing our own people they patronize and promote others. Inspite of earlier advices several times to patronize our own people, many of the Goans and Konkani lovers refused to support our own persons. If in our place Malyalis were there I am sure definitely they would patronize and help their own people and not non Malyalis. To produce one Konkani Album it takes lot of time, efforts and money and if the producer fails to recover the cost then in future nobody will come forward to produce Konkani Cassettes in which case it will be a big set back for the cause of Konkani promotion. If such attitude of Goans will continue then we Goans only will be responsible for the downfall of Konkani promotion. However, in one way it is good to know that Kuwait Goans are doing yeomen services for the cause of Konkani thru the medium of Konkani Cassettes, thru this mode Kuwait Goans are enriching Konkani Language for which they must not only be applauded but also supported and patronized. The contribution of Kuwait Goans in the promotion of Konkani is such that those beyond Konkani Land taking fake credit for the cause of Konkani should be afraid to harp on their negligible and minimal contribution if at all they have contributed. If 20th of August we glorify as the Konkani Day then the credit for this should go only to Kuwait Goans besides those in Goa who sacrificed and done so much for the realization of this Day and to a certain extent to Goans from other countries in the Gulf. Those who are taking fake credit for the realization of this Day from distant lands away from Konkani Land, Kuwait and other countries in the Gulf are making mockery of themselves. When Konkani Mae needed their help for its survival they did nothing worthwhile. It is Kuwait Goans who gave credibility to the dignity of expatriate Goans by selflessly and whole heartedly supporting Konkani cause during the critical time of Konkani movement. Those who are singing Hosanas now in praise of Konkani were dormant during the critical happenings in Goa for the cause of Konkani. They are shameless Goans and they have no right even to call themselves Goans because they deserted soul of Goa that is Konkani when actually they could do something. During the time of Konkani movement they were not kids, they were not sucking the breast of their mothers, they knew what was happening and yet they remained as silent spectators. These are fake Goans and genuine Goans should raise their voice against the tamasha the fake Goans are doing now.

The songs in the Cassette Ghorkar are good for ones listening pleasure and also to get some education. Hence, more and more Goans and more and more Konkani people should listen to this Cassette and Kuwait Goans must preferably purchase it from Michael DSilva himself who put in lot of hard work to bring out this cassette and not to purchase from Banyas who feel Goans are lower strata of human society.

A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.
