GOACOM DAILY NEWS CLIPPINGS 25 Aug 2003 CAMPAL, AGUADA ARE IFFI VENUES: The twin sites of Campal in Panaji and the Fort Aguada have been selected by the Key Advisory Group (KAG) of International Film Festival of India to stage the next festival by December 2004. The site at Kala Academy, including the panoramic "Darya Sangam" and the adjacent football ground will comprise the venue for IFFI in the capital city. At Aguada there are plans to set up a state-of-the-art convention centre with at least eight to ten theatres, a multiplex with a grand studio, a seminar room, a venue for film bazaar, and a modern auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,500 to 2,000 seats. GOA IS THE RIGHT CHOICE: Suave and debonair, the renowned actor and director Shekhar Kapoor came into the limelight and played a crucial role in influencing the choice of the twin sites for IFFI in Goa. He was quick to reply, "Goa is small and compact but extremely beautiful. At peak tourist season between December and January, Goa sustains the pressure pretty well. It has the capacity to withstand that sort of a pressure. So a film festival, which is mostly an indoor activity with little outdoor action or action limited to specific areas should not be a problem here." (GT) GOLLYWOOD? NO WAY: Renowned film-maker Shekar Kapur does not believe that Bollywood will re-christen itself 'Gollywood' now that Goa has been named the permanent venue for the International Film Festival of India. Mr Kapur said that no film-maker would like to produce films in locations where he would have to hunt for personnel. This is because the Ponda Municipal Council has been dumping its garbage at a site which is barely metres from the main pipeline which supplies drinking water to Farmagudi, a military training centre and other areas. (H) NAVY PLANE CRASHES OFF GOA COAST: A Sea-Harrier fighter aircraft belonging to the naval aviation wing of the Indian navy crashed 50 kms off the Goa coast at 1 pm yesterday, Defence ministry officials said in Mumbai. The pilot Lt Shiraz Azad jumped out of the aircraft with the help of a parachute and was rescued. He was the only person on board the ill-fated aircraft. (UNI report in GT) FEMALE BODY RECOVERED: The Panaji police yesterday recovered a female body near the Secretariat in Panaji. The body of Vinanti Chandakant Naik from Britona, who was missing since 21 August, was found floating in the Mandovi river. (GT) TOURIST DROWNS: A 24-year-old tourist, named Prakash, from Karnataka was missing till late yesterday after he was carried away by strong currents off the Bogmalo beach where he had gone for a swim.
