Oh Teotonio! You crack me up with those wonderful and loaded proverbs! I
still am mulling over 'Soglleanche randni kodde tench bannxirem' but have
still not figured out how to use it appropriately. Now you have come up with
a new one "Chodd firangi bhas, haddank urta mas" and I can't wait to use
that one! Yes 'Alma portuguesa a lingua portuguesa' like the word
'saudades' is a beautiful one too. Your Professor and my uncle Dr. Leopoldo
da
Rocha once commented that in addition to your vast knowledge of the history
of Goa and Portugal your prowess in both English and Portuguese gave you
the added leverage necessary to prove a point. Well, he forgot Konkani!!!
Your comment that even the so-called 'objectivity of history' is a myth has
gotten me thinking and I think you might have a point there.
I'd also like to add that to comment and critique one's country of birth or
one's adopted country does not automatically translate into treason. Most
Ivy League Universities in the USA have a very liberal faculties whose
Professors were and
still are very vocal about President Bush's foreign policy. It is to your
credit and to that of your adopted country that you are able to do so.
