Exposition of St Francis relics from November,2004 The 16th solemn exposition of the sacred relics of St Francis Xavier will be held at Old Goa from November 21, 2004 and end on January 2, 2005. A decree to this effect has been issued by the Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Mgr Raul Gonsalves. The mortal remains of St Francis Xavier were exposed on the occasion of his feast on December 3. The first solemn exposition was held from February 10-12, 1782. From 1864 the expositions became less frequent. The frequency was increased in the 1960s to be an annual affair. The exposition of the sacred relics of the saint takes place around the feast day once every decade[10 years] since 1974.The last solemn exposition - the 15th in the series - was held from November 21, 1994 to January 7, 1995. A committee will be soon appointed by the archbishop to oversee the arrangements for the exposition, says a press note issued by Fr Olavo Velho Pereira, director of Diocesan Centre For Social Communication Media.
