When we Goans under the leadership of United Goans Foot-ball Centre initiated competitive soccer activities at Sour Grounds in 1979 for Indians one of the powerful teams participating in the inception year was Flying Arrows comprising mainly Mangaloreans, two of the great stalwarts of that team were aggressive and speedy forward Isac and left back Stanley. The president of this team/club Mr. Denzil also a Mangalorean was the titular head but major job was handled with meticulous perfection and with Job�s patience by Lawry Pinto the son-in-law of Mapusa Goa. I was known to supply news to both the local English dailies of the proceedings of our soccer matches. In 1980 Flying Arrows when took a decision to start their own knock-out tournament, they needed media coverage and Lawry Pinto very humbly and meekly approached me for providing press coverage for their tournament which as usual I did as past time hobby. During last so many years as I know Lawry Pinto, he is a very open and kindhearted person, ready to help any cause on compassionate grounds and for Konkani cause he always supported me and our Konkani activities. He is a great lover of Konkani and very much known not only in his Mangalorean community but also in Goan community besides he is a well-known personality in Indian community as a whole. Later on to give better services to the soccer crazy boys he formed his own Club, Youth Recreation Centre that fields its soccer team Rising Stars at Sour Grounds. This team has won laurels and lot of championships in many of the soccer competitions held in Kuwait for expatriates. Rising Stars were the winners of first ever super league conducted by Kuwait Indian Foot-ball Federation and they have unique distinction in winning 9 championships consecutively for 9 years. They were also the proud winners of UMO�s first tournament for all Indians. This year Youth Recreation Centre celebrates its anniversary with grand scale and since this is the case, YRC is going to organize a number of activities this year and will carry forward in the next year too. One of the activities is holding of grand Konkani Musical Show on 27th of November this year at Indian Arts Circle Funaitees, starting at 4.30.
In order to make this show a real grand, YRC has entrusted the task of directorship of this show to a seasoned director Mr. Fidelis Fernandes whose organizing and directing abilities of Konkani shows is unique. In the recently organized One Act Play and Solo Singing Competitions Fidelis has already proved his mettle, so too in earlier organized musical shows under the banner of Konkani Heritage Kuwait. This show will consists of skits written by Rosary Ferns besides number of songs such as solos, duets, duos, trios, children dances, group dance and songs etc. To participate in this show, topmost and best of artistes from Goa, Bombay and Mangalore are specially flying besides the induction of best of local Goan & Mangalorean artistes. Amongst the visiting artistes indomitable, evergreen and still charming Rita Rose will bring an extra colour to this show. This will be the first time that she is going to participate in Konkani Show in Kuwait minus the association of her beloved husband Alfred Rose who to our regret and dismay is afflicted with sickness. Her presence on Konkani Stage after a long gap will surely attract the much attention from the audience and she will also render beautifully composed solos and duets besides playing a major role in the skit. Amongst others, hit man Sylvester Vaz and Querobina Carvalho will surely play super roles in the skits. One can easily rate Querobina Carvalho as the only super star amongst the local Goan artistes. Currently Querobina Carvalho is in Goa where she attended the funeral of her mother who died recently. Sanny de Quepem who has created so much of impact of his solos in Kuwait and become the favourite of the crowd especially intellectual segment of the audience has vowed to render a solo which will surely create a sensation in the Tiatro circle. Michael de D�Silva as usual will made his voice more audible while Marcus Vaz will delight the audience with his normal way of catchy songs. Prince Jacob along with his brother comedian Humbert will create too much of laughter into the hall with the hilarious comedy in the skits as well as in duos with his brother and duet with Rita Rose. Known as a man of thousand faces veteran C. D�Silva will prove to everyone why he is called the man of so many faces. Rosary Ferns with Sylvester and Sanny will give something different this time in their trios and the opening chorus will be jointly rendered by Goans & Mangaloreans on Konkan Railway from Goa to Bombay. Besides Rosary Ferns - former Kala Academy Award winner for solo singing will compose and render excellent trios on the subject very relevant to our current situation. Amongst the Mangalorean artistes, Wilfy Remimbus with his troupe consisting of his wife, son and others will delight the audience as never before while dancing sensation pretty Joyoti will capture the hearts of everyone who is eyeing on her. Beautiful Joylene with her sweet and charismatic voice will give extra booster for the show whereas Roney D�Cunha and Lancy Rodrigues in the songs add more grandeur to the show.
According to the organizers, the entry passes will be priced very low compared to other shows where outstation artistes are participating. This is being done to facilitate everyone interested in Konkani Shows to witness this grand musical show.
Since this is going to be the best opportunity for Konkani Show lovers to enjoy such a wonderful show with low rate of entry passes and best performance of best of artistes on Konkani Stage, no lover of Konkani Show should miss this chance. In this show one will witness the unity of Goans & Mangaloreans which is very imperative for the cause of Konkani. Youth Recreation Centre is involved in organizing soccer activities for the community members and since this is the case YRC is bound to get lot of support for this show.
