The wealth in many of these countries, was in the
hands of a few. During the colonial rule of the
Europeans, the economy and its wealth was dominated by
these ruling minorities. 95% of the local population
saw none of the growth rates and development that was
and is being talked about. 

Even today in these same countries, the distribution
of wealth is disproportionate and dominated by ethnic
and/or ruling minorities.
