Aishwarya Shinkre, an eight-year-old student of Almeida School, Ponda, died due to dengue fever at the Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. Also two more dengue cases were also detected at Ponda yesterday. PARRIKAR PACIFIES TRADERS: Timely intervention of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday clamed down tensions which had been flaring up since Friday morning over shifting of traders in Panaji Municipal Market to the new complex. GUTKA SEIZED: In a major raid the Directorate of Food and drugs confiscated gutka sachets worth more than Rs.1 lakh from a transport office godown in Ponda and from a truck that had arrived from Hubli. (H) INDECENT PROPOSAL: Making indecent proposals to a married woman landed Babu Shetye, a thirty-year-old bachelor from Moira, in Jail on September 13, Mapusa police said. Shetye reportedly telephoned a 32-year-old woman, from Sakailovaddo, Bastora, on August 23 promising her that he would get all her father-in-law's property and money in her name in return for her relationship with him. The woman promptly informed her husband. (H) MAINTAINING CLEANLINESS AT GMC: Maintaining cleanliness at the Goa Medical College, Bambolim, in a Herculean task in view of nearly 10,000 people visiting every day either to seek treatment, visit those admitted there. According to the CMC authorities the premier health care centre in the State attract over 6-7 thousand general visitors per day and has a bed strength of 1,030 and over 1,200 people visiting it to seek treatment at its various out patient departments. There are also over 2,000 staff members. Besides there are 100 admissions per day and over 50 operations are performed. The authorities have decided to permit the sale of only those food items specified in the licence conditions. (H) GOLD STOLEN: Gold ornaments and household items worth Rs.29,700 were stolen from the residence of Vidyadhar Narvekar at Bhomwado-Tuem in Pernem. (H) CHILD SUCCUMBS TO BURNS: Playing around in the kitchen can sometimes prove costly. This was realized by the Bolvekar family, in Cortalim, when their 14-month-old infant boy died on Saturday after battling for life for the last five days. The boy, Chirag, had sustained 32 per cent burn injuries after hot boiling water fell on his leg and waist when the boy was playing around in the kitchen with a small ball. The ball landed into the vessel containing the boiled water, and when the boy tried to retrieve it, the utensil came down on him. (H) TO REHABILITATE SUGAR FACTORY: Minister for Co-operation Vinay Tendulkar has said that the government has initiated steps to bring the Sanjivani sugar factory of Goa on the path of progress and asked the sugarcane growers and employees attached to the factory, to extend their co-operation to the endeavour of the government in this direction. The pupils will be taught face painting, water-colouring, etc. (NT) LOTUS-BUD DOMES OF AGAPUR: The town of Ponda provides an easy access to some very famous temples like the Shantadurga at Kavlem, Ramnath at Bandoda, etc. Yet some unique and historic temples have been largely ignored and do not feature anywhere either on the itinerary of the tourists or anywhere else. One such rare temple is the Mahavdeo temple of Agapur. The unique feature of this temple is its crown of three contiguous stone domes, crowing the three garbhakuds that is the sanctum sanctorum.
