Whilst the mystery of your identity continues to tease our brains, if you are in the UK you will have noticed that very recently Marks and Spencers reversed the process when it launched a new range of chilled, ready-cooked Indian meals. To quote their Press release, see http://www2.marksandspencer.com/thecompany/mediacentre/pressreleases/2003/foo2003-08-14-00.shtml : >For the first time, Marks & Spencer will be introducing a fish curry, >with the Goan dish Meen Molee (3.99). Meen Molee is a Keralan dish of course. Another faux pas (please do not link this to the cheapo Brit charter tourists!) is a new item in the range called "Konkani Aloo" And, also making debuts in the same range are Chicken Xacuti and the chilling "Goan Crab Cakes" Let us hope that this results in a total cull of Goan crabs! Cheers, Eddie Fernandes PS Today's (21 Sept.) Observer contains extracts from Madhur Jaffrey's new curry bible. Writing about the origins of the vindaloo she questions if the vinho originally meant vinegar or wine. She also notes that "while most vindaloos are made with pork, which Catholic Goans eat readily, they are also made with the ducks that paddle freely in the thousands of flooded rice fields. The dish then becomes accessible to the many Muslims and Hindus of the area."
