There has been so much of awarness about the celebrations of Goa day,and we all owe a big thanks to Rene who has been keeping this awarness alive with so many mails, and information and thanks to Goa net, mainly because it is due to this net that gave me a chance to celebrate with the rest of Goans.
But the sad part, Most of the Goans have not understood the meaning of this day, for most of them it is wine, dine and fun,but attached to it is no doubt the success and inclusion of our mother tongue Konkani in the constitution but with it goes the efforts put in by many goans, the lives of the young people during the agitation Period for the struggle of this language. I have to mention again that during the function at Dar the architect of Goan Institute in Dar Mr. Almeida was asked to say a few words about the background of Goans and Mr. Almeida delivered a great speech , unfortunately many of our goans showed less importance for his speech , and in a sarcastic way starting clapping not for his speech as appreciation but as a mockery to get him off the mike. My request to all such Goans mostly the youth is , learn from such respectable people and this knowledge will help you filter it to the other generation, learn to speak konkani and write it not just Dev Borem Korum(in goa the non goans speak better konkani than some goans) Mr. Almeida's speech is a golden key for you all to find out and learn about your roots which you all have left in Goa, no matter wherever you are in this world, let the goan spirit be alive always in you.Wine and dine is just not enough to keep our mother tongue alive but the language spoken, makes a big difference. Some of the great Goan leading lights in Dar whom I have met and learnt during my short stay and my hats off to them are, Mr. Almeida, Prof.Adolf Mascarenhas and Mrs. Mascarenhas and Mr. Dourado. ________________________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
