This Baina prostitute controversy is just going around in circles. As Miguel Braganza rightly pointed out there's no point in talking about legalising prostitution, and preaching about the morality of it, unless we see the practical application in local conditions.

To quote from Miguel's recent posting...
"Can we come back to the prostitutes at Baina...."
"We cannot sit in our armchairs and solve the problem."
"If one wants to catch marsh fish, one has to get the pants wet."
"....we are home and dry!"

As an Unofficial GoaNet Volunteer I am putting together a GoaNet Fact Finding Team to visit Baina tomorrow (Sunday 5th October) to interact with the prostitutes, barmen and pimps (though not necessarily in that sequence) and put forward our stand on their issue and get their feedback. Do they want our help? Do they want their operations legalised? Are they happy as they are? Do they want to be rehabilitated? How much do they charge? Are their operations economically feasible? Are the premises hygenic? Is protection provided?

Volunteers for this Fact Finding Mission are requested to be present at Kadamba Bus Stop tomorrow morning by 10.30 a.m. I will be standing there with an appropriate placard. From there we will proceed by chartered bus to Vasco city. After refreshments we will proceed to Baina. Please e-mail me before 8 a.m. tomorrow to confirm your participation so I can make necessary arrangements.

I will be carrying my Digital Camera. Can someone volunteer to bring along a Camcorder? Or at least a tape recorder with a mike for interviewing the locals? Also some female GoaNetters should necessarily be present so that the Baina locals don't misinterpret our intentions.

Let's stop just debating theoretically on the Net. Let's go where the action is!

Baina - here we come!

Cecil
