Dear Goanetters, While it is good news that the GSWC has been re-constituted as required by law[although announced a month after the term of the last Commission expired],the trend of the Mahila Congress leader being replaced by the BJP Mahila Morcha President appears to be rather unhealthy. Ms. Kunda Chodankar has also been appointed the General Secretary of the BJP in Goa for 2003-06. Justice to women in Goa will continue to come[if at all] with a political flavour. If you are a woman in a male-dominated society and a congress woman in a BJP-dominated state....you will continue to be in a miserable state ,indeed.
I do not know if my contemporary President's Award Girl Guide,Dr.Meenacshi Martins Shukla [daughter of the illustrious freedom fighter,Dr.Jose F.Martins] will be able to make a difference--or be reduced to writing 'dissenting notes'. Her name means 'beautiful eyes of a fish' [meena=fish; ankh=eye;su/shi=good,beautiful].She is proud of that name. I hope she is not a fish out of water in the GSWC. Viva Goa.
