WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN BENAULIM: Mystery surround the death of a young Bengali woman, Anita Mandal, at Pedda, Benaulim. Police have registered a case of unnatural death, but are awaiting the post mortem report to take action. (GT) MARDOL RESIDENT COMMITS SUICIDE: Krishna Nath Naik (50) from Kuncoliem, Mardol, committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree behind his house yesterday. (NT) GOMANT VISHWA SAMMELAN: The government of Goa will organise "Gomant Vishwa Sammelan", a convention of worldwide Goans under the aegis of NRI-Goa Facilitation Centre, on January 3, 4 and 5, 2004. The Chief Minister said that the basic idea to organise this type of convention is to cultivate a sense of belonging among the fellow Goans who are spread all over the world.The basic stress would be on identification of core areas and having technical sessions on education, health care, tourism, art and culture, agriculture and industry. A monitoring committee will also be set up to tackle issues coming out of the deliberations. (GT) CORJUEM KHAJAN LAND IN PERIL: The Podwal Tenants Association of Corjuem is faced with a liability of Rs.1,42,950 in the form of a loan which is to be paid to the Soil Conservation Department and which is pending for the last 18 years. Burdened as the Association is with the aforesaid liability, the Khajan land has been rendered unsafe since the bundhs are very weak and repairs cannot be undertaken due to shortage of funds.
