The Pope may never have received the Nobel Peace Prize from a liberal Norway based-committee because of his opposition to abortion. However, there is no doubt his papacy was unfulfilled because Cardinal Ratzinger and others close to the Pope are a conservative group, who hijacked this papacy from day one. Their opposition to Liberation Theology and its third world implications, in effect siding with capitalism and big business doomed any hope of progress for the vast majority (the poor). Although the ordination of women is not the first priority of our times it will happen (sooner rather than later I hope). It could have happened under this Pope, except for the conservative bias (especially the influence of right-wing groups like Opus Dei) in the present Vatican set-up. Let's face it, the clash of values is real and alive and the Vatican is not immune to what happens in society at large. This time the conservatives won, but the next time and the next Pope....
