Jayasankar **DV (PAL), 45 Mins., 2003 Film South Asia 2003 Kathmandu The First and the Last Experimental Film Festival 2003 Sydney* Naata is about Bhau Korde and Waqar Khan, two activists and friends, who have been involved in conflict resolution, working with neighbourhood peace committees in Dharavi, reputedly, the largest ?slum? in Asia. This film explores their work, which has included the collective production and use of visual media for ethnic amity. Naata is also about us; among other things, it is an attempt to reflect on how we relate to spaces of the other, spaces like Dharavi. It is, above all, about Mumbai, the city that encompasses Bhau, Waqar and us. * About the Directors* *Anjali Monteiro* is Professor and Head, and *K.P. Jayasankar* is Reader (Production), Unit for Media and Communications, Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Monteiro has a Masters degree in Economics and a Ph.D. in Sociology. Jayasankar has an M.A. in German language and a Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences, from IIT, Bombay. They were both Howard Thomas Memorial Fellows in Media Studies attached to Goldsmiths College, London and the University of Western Sydney. Both of them are involved in media production, teaching and research. Jointly they have won nine national and international awards for their videos. These include the Prix Futura Berlin 1995 Asia Prize for *Identity- The Construction of Selfhood* and a Special Mention of the Jury at MIFF `96 for *Kahankar**: Ahankar* and a Certificate of Merit, MIFF '98, for *YCP 1997* Their work has been shown at several film and video festivals. They have also written several papers in the area of media and cultural studies and have contributed to scholarly journals such as *Cultural Studies*. They serve as visiting faculty to many media and design institutions such as the National Institute of Design, University of Hyderabad, Asian College of Journalism, among others.
