GL response: Many Goans are appreciative of the honor given to Alfred Rose by the Goa govt at least posthumously. Many, like me, are taken aback that such an award was not give to the artist when he was alive. This lack of appreciation of Goan talent by Goans is not surprising. How many Goan organizations in Goa, Bombay or overseas awarded this and other Goan artists any awards? Perhaps the Kuwait (Welfare) Association may have done so. The Kuwait-Goans need to be much-admired and applauded for publicly and privately showing their appreciation for Goan talent on an ongoing basis through out the year. Perhaps their proximity to Goa and their oil and water cultural environment helps them to maintain their close ties to their ethnic roots. Perhaps it is just the skill and wisdom of the leaders of the Goan community in Kuwait that is a factor. Whatever it may be, they need to be emulated. Hope Rev.Dr.D.Fernandes, (whom I do not know) can lead the Florida Goans in this effort.
