Dear Goanetters, Whether it is a spin off from the hugely successful "Fontainhas Festival" or a take off from the IFFI boom ...or just a continuation of the painting of the 'alfandega'[Customs House]and 'quartel'[Police HQ and barracks] by Fundacao Oriente.... I cannot say, but it is just fantastic! The facades of the Secretariat[ Palacio da Idalcao], the 'Fazenda'[old harem and present day Directorate of Accounts],Tourist Hostel/Panaji Residency, Singbal Book shop[opposite the Church] and other buildings in Panaji[Pangim,Panjim,Ponje] are improving. Hideous sign boards, tasteless paints, grime of centuries is being scraped off and the tastefully painted walls are coming alive. Massano de Amorim [which today looks like a 'chawl' from Dhobi Talao or Kalbadevi in amchi mumbai] is next on the hit list; so is Goa Medical College. It may be a BJP Government in Goa.....but the town is getting the colonial flavour. Who says everything Lusitanian is bad ? There is no salad better dressed than one tossed with a dash of the good ole Azeite de Oliviera [olive oil, and no relation of Antonio Oliviera Salazar!]
It is 'Nossa terra, linda terra.' once more.[At least in Panaji] I look forward to a nostalgic trip down the river on a 'gasoline' or 'vapor' or even a catamaran! Viva Goa.
