In a letter written to Speaker K Kalimuthu, the GUJ said that the unprecedented action of the TN Assembly was a clear attempt to throttle and infringe upon the freedom of the press. (GT)
MITE BRINGS GOAN COCONUT TO ITS KNEES: In Goa, the retail price of coconuts has reached double digit figures but, ironically, the coconut producers are far from happy. They are distressed that they cannot encash on the price rise because the local coconut production levels have nosedived. Behind the problem, is a small, almost microscopic, insect-like creature called the Eriophyid mite that is causing much of the havoc. There are few coconuts coming from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. (H) MILK MAY COST MORE: Scanty rainfall in all parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka has had an adverse effect on fodder supply to cattle in these states. Coupled with a hike in animal fodder rates effected by the Goa Dairy, this has led a chorus of demand for increasing the rates of milk supplied by various suppliers all over the State. (GT) TRUCK CARRYING LUX SOAPS MISSING: A truck loaded with Lux soaps worth around Rs.8 lakh has been missing since October 19, 2003. The truck was loaded at Hindustan Lever Ltd, Kundai Industrial Estate, and was dispatched to Icchapuram in Andhra Pradesh. The registration number of the truck was bogus as it was the one issued to a tractor from Neruri RTO office in Andhra Pradesh.
