Considering long delay caused in encashing National Saving Certificates (NSC) at the Margao post office, citizens have demanded the opening of additional counters to cater to needs of the senior citizens and people buying these certificates and encashing them upon expiry.
According to them (citizens), there is only one counter operating in Margao at present which caters to the needs of NSC agents and purchasers who visit the post office for obtaining a NSC and the like. It is said that since there is only one counter and one employee to deal with the work, citizens are forced to wait for a long time.
It has also been observed that NSC agents make bookings in their offices and come to the post office with large amounts either for registration or to encash money on behalf of the clients. On an average around 15 to 20 agents visit the post office everyday.
Speaking to The Navhind Times, a student who had approached the post office last week, said that he stood in the queue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to the large number of agents present.
Sources in post office however disclosed that there was just one person to count cash and complete the paper work of all those visiting. They also said that in rural areas there were facilities to encash the NSC, but a majority of the people preferred to visit Margao. ----------------------------------------- The Navhind Times 9/11/03 page 3 -----------------------------------------
