LONDON: Hindi film actor Dalip Tahil is likely to be
dropped from the cast of a major BBC soap and deported
to India because his work permit papers are not in
order.

Tahil worked on Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Bombay Dreams,
and his growing popularity in Britain has raised the
hackles of several British Asian actors who resent the
fact that they are being bypassed for lucrative roles.

The Britain-born Asian actors have complained to
their union Equity over the fact that an Indian-born
actor got the coveted part before them.

It is likely that the resentful actors may have
tipped off authorities about Tahil's work permit
status. He has been the target of a hate campaign and
subjected to a series of attacks since landing the
high-profile part.

Tahil had a two-year work permit to work in Bombay
Dreams but has since been working on East Enders , a
major BBC soap, in which he plays the part of charmer
Dan Ferreira. He is often described as a "top star" of
the soap.
