Re: " . . "pharma-state" because of many pharmaceuticals setting up their manufacturing units in the state."

This is very true. It might be a good idea if Goa (and India) could exploit the current situation of high priced drugs in the USA. Many of the companies manufacturing in India are multi-nationals manufacturing the "same" drugs as in the USA , e.g. maintanance drugs such as Bayer's Adalat (nifedipine extended release) - for hypertension is sold in India as Nifelalt Retard for a fraction of the price. Another is Prozac, etc. There are some Indian Internet pharmaeutical companies currently marketing drugs to the USA but are not very successful because Americans are not sure if the the same manufacturing standards are maintained in India. I am not sure if an advertising campaign can allay those fears. I am sure there must be a way around this.
(If Hero Honda can be successful in marketing its motor cycles around the world - obviously with Honda's blessing, why can the same formula be used with the drug companies? Particularly when the patents lapse.)

re: "surfacing of roads". I can vouch for this. Coming back into Goa from a brief excursion to Ambolim Falls (in the Ghats) one can tell when one enters Goa just by the condition of the roads. Going to Ambolim Falls gives one the opportunity to sample a little bit of Maharashtra and Karnataka without straying too far from Goa. The general condition of housing and accompanying environment is also very apparent. Much, much better in Goa.

re: "new companies such as D-Link and Control Net" in Verna
These are not new any more but they are definitely worth a visit when you go to Goa. They will change your perception of Goa when you see these high tech facilities. They are comparable to the best in the world. The focus on hardware is good but Goa must not lose sight of software which is very lucrative. Perhaps more lucrative than hardware as it allows small companies with minimal investment to compete with the best in the world.

The Goa government must do more to encourage this sector of Goa.
