Navhind Times on the Web: GoaThe Congress spokesman seems to be showing the true colours of the 'suit case' political set up in Goa.......and the colours definitely do not include 'green'.
Is it not cheeky for Jitendra[ who operated the Sky Pak farm in Pernem] to be asking the Goa Govt. to rehabilitate those who have raped virgin forests for personal wealth? Should the abettors who pimped for these rapists and provided transport be rehabilitated at Govt cost? In my opinion, they deserved to be hanged! Hats off to the present regime for issuing notices for stoppage of mining in the sanctuary area. Jitendra does not want an educational estate in Pernem. Rape of forests in Sanguem and Sattari is okay...continuity with the colonial rule. Wah! Chota sarkar of the Visconde de Pernem. Salazar would be proud of your loyalty to his double standards. Quote..... Wednesday, December 3, 2003 Take measures to revert decision to close mines in notified areas: Congress Party. NT Staff Reporter Panaji Dec 2: Expressing distress at the observations and subsequent decisions of the high-powered committee appointed by the Supreme Court to close down all mines in the notified areas of Mhadei and Netravali regions, the Congress party today demanded that the state government take all measures to revert the decision to close the mines. The Congress spokesman, Mr Jeetendra Deshprabhu told a press conference that closure of the mines would cause immense hardships - both social and economic - to over 2,000 persons and many families who are dependent on the continuous operations of the mines. “Many families have invested huge amounts by taking loans from financial institutions to buy trucks and other earth-moving equipment. The closure of the mines will be financially debilating to these people,” Mr Deshprabhu said. Mr Deshprabhu said the Congress position, vis-a-vis the mines-closure issue, was arrived at today afternoon at a meeting of the Congress Legislature party (CLP) presided by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Pratapsingh Rane. “The government should take all steps to revert the decision by approaching the Supreme Court in the matter of the public interest litigation, which ironically has gone against the interest of the public,” Mr Deshprabhu said. “In the meantime, the government must pay the affected persons a subsistence allowance and to those who have taken loans, the government must waive the interest component till such time the decision to close the mines is reversed,” he said. Mr Deshprabhu said the government must advise all the concerned banks to stop recovery proceedings till the matter is legally resolved and that it should examine the possibility of rehabilitating the affected persons in other areas to minimise their hardships caused by the mines-closure. “The government must note with concern that these mines have been in operation since pre-liberation and their abrupt closure will adversely affect the revenue of the state as well as its export earnings,” Mr Deshprabhu said.
