Konkani writer N Shivdas made an interesting presentation of his perspectives at Roland Martins' Friday Balcao on December 12 at Mapusa. An otherwise little-noticed perspective on the underside of Goan society, where entry into the inner sanctum of prominent temples in Goa.
Caste discrimination is not new to Goa, and happens in varying ways, in different religions. Including Christianity. Often, such issues are simply not noticed, or even spoken/written about. Maybe a case for more dialogue within Goan society, and more translations among the different linguistic groups. Also underlines the need for disparate groups fighting caste oppression (temples, Dalits, Cuncolim, wherever) to link hands and take up a common cause, if any impact is to be made. See Shivdas's booklet 'Devla ukti korat mhunche kitem?', 2002 (Published by Premand Lotlikar, Chalval Prakashan, Margao, Goa).
