Hi Goans Everywhere, Last week ABN-Amro Bank and Sanctuary Magazine presented awards to EARTH HEROES -- those who have significantly helped in the conservation of nature and our flora and fauna and also helped others to appreciate the benefits which nature has bestowed on us.
Sanctuary's Green Teacher Award 2003 awards went to Arvind Kumar Chalasani, a teacher at a Doon School who had got his own students and a million others involved in making themselves and all around them aware of the benefit of nature and the need to conserve what she has bestowed on us and to make sure that we pass on this legacy to our children and their children and not destroy it in our lifetimes. ABN-Amro announced that for 2004 they planned to have awards for youth leaders in the area of conservation -- I am sure Neil Alvares and Harvey D'Souza will be among those who have contributed substantially to making nature's treasures known to visitors young and old. I also hope that in our efforts toboost tourism we also publicise the idea that Goa is not "only beaches -- with the scantily dressed tourists -- but is full of adiverse flora and fauna, some of which we ourselves are not even aware. I have atee-shirt on Goa featuring the pictures of vrious animals and I do not know some of them. Let's keep Goa green and our forests and wetlands full of birds and animals to be seen, photgraphed and enjoyed by ourselves and tourists coming from all lands.
