------------------------------

All right-thinking people (which presumably includes most of us!)
are often faced with a dilemma when called upon to extend or deny support
for actions taken by those in authority, particularly of those entrusted
with the public welfare. Even if we are not fully convinced of their
motives,
but find nothing illegal or unethical in some of their actions, which
may actually promote the public good, should we extend issue-based and
selective support or not?
In other words, is it preferable to have more efficiency and
positive action, even if we are not fully convinced of the motives of
those in authority, rather than the complete mess perpetrated by those
professing to act from the best and most altruistic motives?
Many of the changes for the better which one can observe, such
as the cleaning up and beautification of Panjim, have been described
as being "cosmetic". Even assuming this to be true, is not better to
have cosmetic changes than none at all?
 The debate is open!
