Partying this season:

Christmas is coming and so is the New Year. These are the big dates on
any Goan social calendar. Not to mention the weekend before and after
New Year. As the organizers plan these events, I would appeal to all
coordinators of the Goan socials and dances to honor Goan culture at
your function - both in Goan and in the Goan Diaspora. From my
experience, Goan functions could benefit for the following.

1. Punctuality.
2. Have a MC (Master of Ceremony) who has the whole evening planned.
3. Encourage the audience to mingle beyond their company. Goans are one
big family. These events are important occasions for Goans to network.
Hanging out with the same old crowd does not advance one's horizons.
4. When the band takes a break, introduce the chief guest. A short
speech is very apropos. We would be happy to post the speech on the Goan
Cyberspace so that the words of wisdom can be shared with all.
5. During another band break, remind the audience to maintain their Goan
heritage and be PROUD of it. In fact the very act of getting together
for the social event is a reminder of the society we belong to.
6. Introduce and thank the committee who put the event together.
7. Advise responsible drinking.
8. Wish and Pray for all to have a safe drive home.
Regards, GL, NY.
